ANTHONY C. AUSTIN (2011)
Anthony C. Austin attended Miles College on an athletic scholarship after graduating from J. H. Phillips High School, where he participated on the football and baseball teams. Mr. Austin was a four-year starter in the role of cornerback/safety on the football team as well as a first year starter on the baseball team as a catcher/outfielder. He played football under the direction of coaches Theo Dansby and James Harris. James Harris and Ronald Cook served as Austin’s baseball coaches. Anthony Austin’s on the field contributions took place on the inaugural Golden Bears football and baseball teams. In 1984, Anthony Austin joined the U. S. Marine Corps and served with honor for four years. In 1987, Mr. Austin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from National University in San Diego, California. Anthony Austin has utilized the values learned at Miles College in his military service and professional life through his work as District Manager for Rent-A-Center stores. He is involved in community work as a volunteer coach in the youth basketball, football and baseball leagues in Trussville, Alabama. He stresses leadership, sportsmanship and fundamentals through his participation in coaching youth sports. Since 2003, Anthony Austin has served as youth director at the Roosevelt City Church of Christ. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and Surfside Lodge #112 Free Accepted Masons. This esteemed member of the Class of 1985 is eager to continue making significant contributions to Miles College and in the lives of young people in his community.
