Charles Crockrom Sr. (2016)
Charles Crockrom Sr. was born in Shreveport, LA to the parents of O. B. Sr. and Frenchel Mays,one of six children. His parents strongly believed that “aquality education would be essential for success in life.” Mr. Crockrom started his educational journey at Our Ladyof Blessed Sacrament Chruch School in Shreveport, La. He later attended J.S. Clark Jr. High School and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1969.
In 1973, Charles earned his Bachelors of Arts Degree in Social Science from Miles College in Birmingham, AL. Additional training includes, but is not limited to Graduate, Leadership and Mentoring Institute American Association of Blacks in Higher Education, National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice Mangement Training for Community Based Operations, and Integrated Emergency Management Training, Emmetsburg, Maryland.
In 1984, he was appointed to serve as a member of the Birmingham Racing Commission by the Jefferson County House of Representatives State of Alabama. He currently serves as its Chairman. Responsibilities of this position gave included the implementation of reegulatory and operating procedures of Pari-mutuel thoroughbred racingconducted at the Birmingham Race Course. When Pari-mutuel Greyhound racing was authorized, Commissioner Crockrom assisted in drafting initial rules and he served on the Model Rules and Stewards Accreditation Committee of the Association of Racing Commissioners International, He is Currently a member of the American Greyhound Association.
