Deddric D. Tarver (2012)
Deddric D. Tarver became a Miles College student after accepting a scholarship. He was a member of the basketball and cross-country track and field teams. As a basketball player, Mr. Tarver played in the positions of shooting guard and point guard. He earned an All Conference Honorable Mention in 1993. Deddric Tarver was selected to the President’s List and participated in the Mayor’s Mentoring Program. He graduated from Miles College in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. After college, he worked as a high school coach and guided his team to two final four appearances and one state championship. While serving as assistant Coach at Wenonah High School in 2010, he helped guide the basketball team to a final four appearance. Currently, he is an assistant men’s basketball coach at Lawson State Community College. He is also employed by the American Entertainment Group. Deddric Tarver has received many community and school awards in recognition of his efforts towards helping students in the classroom and on the court. Deddric Tarver’s community involvement activities include participation in community coaching for Huffman Ball Park and as Youth Advisor at his church, the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. He was Co-Chairman of the United Way Strong Kids Program in 2006 and serves as a Board Member of the Birmingham Metro Express Mentoring Program. He also serves on the Jefferson County Election Commission and as Board Member of the Northeast YMCA. Mr. Tarver is also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Deddric Tarver is married to Cathy and has a son, Keegan, who currently attends Miles College. Deddric and Cathy are also the proud grandparents of a grandson, Kaleb. Deddric Tarver loves Miles College and credits the school for all his accomplishments on and off the court.
