DERRICK LAMAR FELTON, SR. (2011)
In 1991, Derrick Lamar Felton, Sr. became a proud member of the Miles College Class of 1993. He joined Miles College after two years at Kemper Military College, where he was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and was chosen for Academic All American and All Conference honors for two consecutive years. Mr. Felton joined the football team as an offensive guard and played for two years under Coaches Anthony Colvin and Ronald Cook. He was a starter in this position and Captain of the football team both years. Derrick Felton was introduced to academic programs at Miles College by professors that showed interest in his career goals and interests, which led to his participation in the Ronald McNair Research Program. Indeed, Mr. Felton is a 17-year employee with the Birmingham Water Works Board as a Chemist in its Enviro Lab. A member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Derrick Felton has taken time for community involvement since college, serving as coach for YMCA Little League programs in football, baseball and basketball. He also takes time to act as a mentor to inner city children.
