Dustin D. Alexander (2012)
Dustin D. Alexander enrolled at Miles College after spending two years as a student at Jefferson Davis Community College. A recipient of the Bryant Gumbel United Negro College Scholarship Fund, Mr. Alexander distinguished himself both in the classroom and on the basketball court. He played as a point guard on the varsity basketball team, under the leadership of Coaches Roosevelt Sanders and Abe Burton. As a junior, Mr. Alexander was selected to the second team in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (“SIAC”); he was pre-selected to the first team and as Team Captain in the SIAC as a senior, Mr Alexander earned further recognition on the basketball court for having the most assists in a play-off half and as team leader in assists and steals. His academIc achievements include recognition on the Miles College Dean’s list and his graduation with cum laude honor distinction. A teacher for ten years, Dustin Alexander gives back to the community through several ministries at his church and by participation in efforts to feed the hungry, to educate youth about the importance of education and health, to mentor disadvantaged youth and in local outreach programs. Dustin Alexander considers induction into the Miles College Sports Hall of Fame as an honor and a way to continue the spirit of excellence, communIty service to others and giving back to the community thus continuing the legacy left by prior Mileans so essential to the history of this institution.
