JEFFREY A. ARTIS (2011)
Jeffrey A. Artis joined Miles College after graduating from Sumpter County High School in York, Alabama, where he excelled in athletics as part of the football, basketball and track teams. He distinguished himself at Miles College through stellar academic performance and major achievements on the football and basketball teams. Mr. Artis served as both quarterback and receiver on the football team under coaches Donald Harris and James Owens. He played a pivotal role to the team’s success in winning consecutive SIAC Conference Championships in 1984 and 1985. Mr. Artis also played on the baseball team and was part of the intramural basketball team that won two championships. Jeffrey Artis received Miles College Sports Academic Awards for four consecutive years, and was named Athletic and Academic All-Conference player. Jeffrey Artis academic highlights include selection to the President’s List, Dean’s List and Honor Roll and election as Student Government Association President in his senior year. Jeffrey Artis also served as Salutatorian of the Miles College Class of 1987. Mr. Artis has enjoyed a rewarding career as Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Jackson Mississippi Division, where he has served in numerous leadership roles and received several awards for exemplary work. Mr. Artis was instrumental in developing the EEO diversity Training Program utilized by the FBI and was coordinator for the Crisis Negotiators in the Jackson Division, negotiating in both domestic and international situations for over fourteen years. Jeffery Artis has been married more than 22 years to his college sweetheart and is the proud father of two college students who won scholarships to Historically Black Colleges. He has served as a mentor for middle school, high school and college students. In 1986 and 1987, he was a counselor for the Miles College Upward Bound program. A devoted Milean, Jeffrey Artis wholeheartedly embraces the values instilled in him though his education and from his parents, coaches, instructors, fellow students and family members.
