John Fisher, Jr.
John Fisher, Jr. was born October 17, 1946. He received his formal education in greater Birmingham, Alabama. In 1965, John was the most valuable player and led the Holy Family Tornado basketball team to the Jefferson County High School Basketball Championship (JCAA). He graduated from Holy Family High School in 1965 and accepted a Scholarship to play basketball with the Miles College Golden Bears, under Coach Pete Wilkins from 1965 to 1969.
In January 1970, John completed requirements for graduation and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Science. He began a career in law enforcement that spans several decades. He quickly advanced through the ranks as he received extensive operational, administrative, and professional development training and opportunities offered through the Birmingham Police Department. As a pioneer, he developed and named the T&T (Trends and Tactics) Crime Management Process for the Department John worked as Supervisory and Executive level Management and Retired with 30 years of service as Deputy Chief of The Birmingham Police Department.
In 2004, Governor Bob Riley, appointed John Fisher, Assistant Director of the Alabama State Troopers in Montgomery, Alabama. He served as Lieutenant Colonel for one year. John’s Professional affiliations are founder and President of the Minority Police Organization; founder and member of the Birmingham Guardians Association. Membership: Metro Area Law Enforcement Executive Association; National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives Association; National Tactical Officers Association; and Ex-Officio for the Mayor’s Police Community Relations Committee.
Religious Affiliation: Lifetime member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Knight of Peter Claver. Social Affiliation: Member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. John is a widower and father of two adult sons and the grandfather of one grandson.
