Joseph "Joe" Norwood (2008)
Joseph “Joe” Norwood graduated from Marengo High School in Mississippi in 1977, and played football and basketball. He was a walk-on for football(halfback) and earned a scholarship from 1977 and 1979. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from Miles College in 1990. He earned a Certificate of Completion from the National Press Photographers Association, TV News Video Workshop and The University of Oklahoma School of Journalism and Mass Communication. His work experience includes: Supervisor, Lauderdale County, Meridian, Mississippi, Chief Photographer and Editor! WTOK-T.V., in Meridian Mississippi, Instructor at Meridian Community College, Editor and Live Shot Technician ! WALA-T.V. in Mobile, Alabama and News Photographer, WBRC T.V., in Birmingham, Alabama. His community service includes: Board Member! Meridian Housing Authority Advisory Board, Promotional Director of Main Street in Meridian, Mentor and Coach for Father Initiative (a statewide mentoring program), Basketball Coach of the Meridian City League and the Adopt-a-Student Sponsor and Mentor Program. He is a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and initiated the Lillie B. Norwood Memorial Scholarship for high schools and college students. His honors and awards include “Best Photographer” award by the Associated Press. “Best Investigator” in the State by the Associated Press for three years; and “Community Member of the Year”. Joe is presently a supervisor for Lauderdale County in Meridian where he manages the overall direction and management of federal, state and local government activities.
