KOURTNAY Y. ABERNATHY (2011)
Kourtnay Y. Abernathy has amassed a considerable number of achievements in her life. After participating in several high school sports, she joined Miles College on an athletic scholarship. Ms. Abernathy was a starter on the first Lady Bears softball team, and served as team captain for three years. She also spent three years on the Lady Bears basketball team. Under the leadership of several coaches, including Anthony Colvin, Kim Pooler and Patrick Peasant, Kourtney Abernathy earned awards as most improved player on the basketball team; most improved player on the softball team; best defense on the softball team; and selection to the SIAC 2nd team. A proud member of the Class of 2005, Ms. Abernathy continued her education at Miles College School of Law, earning her law degree in 2011. Kourtney Abernathy works as an Admissions Counselor at John McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Georgia. She is committed to mentoring young women and exposing them to the benefits of participation in team sports and its importance to the development of discipline, dedication and determination.
