Lamar Ware Jr. (2012)
Lamar Ware, Jr. was recruited by Head Coach Wade Streeter and Assistant Coach Conley Langford to come to Miles College as an award winning scholar athlete from East Mississippi Community College in 2001. He was selected to the all-state second team at Starkville High School in Starkville, Mississippi, where he graduated with honors. Mr. Ware accepted an athletic scholarship and played on the Golden Bears football team. As a defensive lineman, Lamar Ware, Jr. was recognized as “Top Newcomer” in his first year at Miles College. The football team experienced three winning seasons from 2001 to 2004 because of what Mr. Ware calls the “young men of integrity that had a heart of winning.” He credits his individual success to embracing the premise that with hard work, dedication and determination, he could be a promising football player and educated man from one of the greatest Historically Black Colleges in the United States. Lamar Ware, Jr. was also recognized for his academic achievements at Miles College in 2004, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He takes time to give back to the community wherever he lives. While living in Houston, Texas, Lamar Ware, Jr. tutored a group of students in mathematics. Since moving back to Starkville, Mississippi, he has worked with the youth group at his church encouraging healthy eating and exercise. He is also exploring entrepreneurship activities in the area. Mr. Ware has also taken his message to youth groups at other churches. He offers his services to his church by driving the van to church congresses and conventions. Lamar Ware, Jr. devoted and dedicated his time and effort to the Miles College Golden Bears, and describes himself as a young Christian man with respect for the Miles College family.
