Patrick Peasant (2012)
Patrick Peasant’s history of dedication to Miles College began when he accepted an athletic scholarship. Mr. Peasant played on the Golden Bears football and baseball teams in the positions of linebacker and third baseman, respectively, under Coaches Willie Patterson and Cecil Leonard. He was added to the Dean’s List and the President’s List in recognition of his academic achievements. After graduating in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, Patrick Peasant became a football coach at Wood-lawn High School, and served as a volunteer middle school football coach. He began coaching collegiate sports when he joined Miles College as an assistant coach in 2001, holding positions including offensive coordinator/special teams coordinator, running back coach and tight end and offensive line coach under the tutelage of coaches Wade Street and Coach Joe. After serving for nine years in various assistant coach and coordinator roles, Patrick Peasant was chosen as head football coach mid-season in 2010, with five games remaining in the regular season. The Golden Bears football team won the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (“SIAC”) Football Championship in 2011, under his leadership. He is now head coach of the Lady Bears softball team, and led that team to its first Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC”) Division II championship in 2008, and they won the conference championship titles in 2009 and 2012. Patrick Peasant has been chosen as the SIAC Softball Coach of the Year and SIAC Tournament Coach of the Year as softball coach in 2006, 2009 and 2012. Several of softball his players have been recognized by the SIAC. One (1) was named Freshman of the Year and two (2) were selected as Player of the Year. Two (2) players were named NCAA All Region. Fifteen (15) players received designation as SIAC All Academic winners, eight (8) were chosen as SIAC All Tournament Players and seventeen (17) were selected as All-SIAC players. In total, Patrick Peasant has coached teams that have won five divisional championships. He was instrumental in the development of two players named as Addidas Golden Shoe Winners. Over 90% of his players go on to graduate from Miles College. With his busy schedule, Patrick Peasant finds time to volunteer as a football coach for Birmingham City Schools and as baseball coach with the Fred Horn Industrial League. He also participates in the Miles College tutoring program and in literacy programs throughout the city. Patrick Peasant joins the Miles College Sports Hall of Fame with a long history of dedication and service to the school and his community.
