ROBERT D. NELSON (2011)
Robert D. Nelson contributed to the Miles College Golden Bears on both the football and track teams, under the guidance of coaches Theophilus Danzy and Donald Harris. As running back on the football team, Mr. Nelson was named to the SIAC Division III All Conference First Teams in 1981, 1982 and 1983. He was selected as Most Valuable Player in 1983 and 1984, and served as a team captain in 1982 and 1984. Mr. Nelson earned honors as a three-year offensive starter who averaged at least 700 yard season and for the longest kick-off return – 89 yard. On the track team, Mr. Nelson received awards for running the 100-yard dash and in relay races in 1983 and 1984. Robert D. Nelson is a Police Officer with the Birmingham Police Department. He has participated in community activities through the A. G. Gaston Boys and Girls Clubs in Birmingham, Alabama.
